How to Prepare for Your Boudoir Session:

1. Choose the Perfect Outfits

Selecting the right outfits that fit your style and vibe can make all the difference in your boudoir photos. Consider bringing a variety of options to your photography session. Some popular choices include:

  • Partner’s T-shirt or Button-Down Shirt: Adding a personal touch to your photos by wearing your partner’s clothing can paint a story of intimacy and connection.
  • Teddy or Bodysuit: A teddy or bodysuit can be flattering and versatile, allowing you to showcase your curves while still leaving a little somethin’ somethin’ for the imagination.
  • White Lingerie & Garter (for brides): If you’re a bride-to-be, white lingerie can add a touch of bridal elegance to your boudoir photos. It’s a classic choice that never goes out of style.
  • High Heels: Consider bringing a pair of high heels to your session. They can elongate your legs and add a touch of glamour to your photos. If heels aren’t your thing, don’t feel pressured to wear them—opt for whatever makes you feel confident and comfortable.

Some of my favorite options for shopping are Adore Me, Frederick’s of Hollywood, Honey Birdette, and of course, Amazon!

Avoid the following, so you maximize your experience at your session:

  • Ill-fitting lingerie: Lingerie that is too tight or too loose can be unflattering and may not photograph well. Make sure to choose pieces that fit you comfortably and accentuate your curves. For this reason I also suggest avoiding anything with a babydoll fit!
  • Busy patterns: Avoid lingerie with busy patterns or large logos that can be distracting in photos. Opt for solid colors or simple, elegant designs instead.
  • Worn-out or stained clothing: Make sure to choose lingerie that is clean, in good condition, and free of any stains or tears. Worn-out or damaged clothing can detract from the overall aesthetic of your photos.
  • Overly revealing outfits: While boudoir photography is all about celebrating your sensuality, it’s essential to feel comfortable and confident in what you’re wearing. Avoid outfits that make you feel overly exposed or uncomfortable.

All in all, wear something that feels like YOU! Feel free to mix and match different pieces to create a variety of looks during your session.

2. Dress Comfortably and Hydrate Your Skin

When preparing for your boudoir mini session, it’s essential to dress comfortably and pay attention to the little details that can make a big difference in your photos. The morning of your session, avoid wearing tight-fitting clothing that could leave marks on your skin, as these may show up in the final images. Additionally, be sure to remove any clothing tags or labels that could be visible during the shoot.

In the days leading up to your session, remember to drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and glowing. Hydrated skin looks absolutely healthy and radiant in photos! Avoid excessive alcohol consumption the night before your session, as this can leave your skin looking dull and dehydrated. The morning of your shoot, opt for light, hydrating foods and beverages to help you feel your absolute best. A light snack or meal before your session will keep you feeling satisfied without feeling bloated, ensuring that you’re ready to confidently showcase your beauty in front of the camera.

3. Consider Professional Hair and Makeup

While it’s definitely not a requirement, getting your hair and makeup done professionally before your session can help you look and feel your absolute best. A professional makeup artist can enhance your natural features and give you a glamorous, camera-ready look that will immediately boost your confidence during the shoot.

If you choose to do your own hair and makeup, make sure to keep it simple and natural. Avoid heavy makeup or complicated hairstyles that might distract from your natural beauty.

Your nails will be in the photos as well, so consider having them looking manicured, fresh and clean as well!

4. Show Up with Confidence

Confidence is key when it comes to boudoir photography. Remember that you are beautiful just the way you are—EMBRACE IT GIRL! Trust your photographer to capture your best angles and expressions, and don’t be afraid to let your personality shine through in your photos. It’s should be a fun and empowering experience!

5. Bring a Friend for Moral Support

If you’re feeling nervous about your boudoir session, consider bringing along your best girlfriend for moral support (as long as your photographer allows it!). Having a trusted friend by your side can help you relax and feel more comfortable during the shoot. Plus, they can offer encouragement and cheer you on.

I hope this provides you with some good ideas for how to prepare for your boudoir session. Boudoir photography is all about embracing your beauty, confidence, and self-expression! By following these tips and ideas, you’ll be well on your way to crushin’ your shoot and creating stunning, empowering photos that you (and your partner) will cherish for years to come.
