There’s something extra magical about celebrating a baby’s first birthday at the beach. Especially when it involves cake, sand, and a whole lot of love! I had the absolute joy of photographing a cake smash on the beach for our dear friends and their sweet boy Jack, who turns ONE on June 10th! A summer baby!
When Jack’s mom, Jaymie, reached out with her Pinterest inspiration, she had a clear vision: a cake smash on the beach. She wanted photos that felt lighthearted, natural, and meaningful. As mom’s typically do, she went all out! From a custom Etsy onesie to a bright funfetti cake made just for Jack, every detail was thoughtfully chosen to bring her vision to life.
Firstly, we decided on our location– Rexhame Beach, in Marshfield MA. We timed the session for golden hour, when the light is soft and dreamy. Jack was all smiles as he explored the sand, and once we brought out the cake, the real fun began. Within minutes, frosting was everywhere, the cake was delightfully destroyed, and bits of sand were mixed into every bite. Just as you would expect during a beachside cake smash!
It feels like just yesterday I photographed Jack as a sleepy newborn last August. Now he’s full of personality, just about walking, and loves dancing to “The Ants Go Marching” with the biggest smile. Getting to document these milestones for families I love is such an honor.
If you’re dreaming of a unique way to celebrate your baby’s first year, a cake smash on the beach is a beautiful (and fun!) option. The ocean backdrop, natural light, and wide-open space make it perfect for little ones to play, explore, and—yes—smash cake in the most carefree way.
